You might want to live in a dorm when you first arrive, and then take your time looking for an apartment, finding a roommate, etc. The down side is that you have less privacy. The advantages of dorm living is that it's easy to meet people an make friends, and you don't have to worry about cooking and houskeeping much. I understand that Sierra's dorms are pretty good-most community colleges don't have dorms.

The cost of housing is significantly higher there, and I don't think that there are any dorms. If you want a university in Northern California, then either Diablo Valley or Sierra is a good idea.ĭiablo Valley College is in Contra Costa County in the San Francisco Bay Area. If you want to transfer to a University in Southern California, then it might be best to attend Santa Monica. Santa Monica is in Southern California-about 400 miles away from Sierra or Diablo. Sierra college does have a very good reputation, and I would imagine that they have good transfer agreements with UC Davis and with CSU Sacramento (also called Sac State). They may be called articulation agreements, or for the CSU/UC system might be under the heading IGETSE or IGETCE, which stands for Intersegmental General Education Transfer. Most University web sites will have something about transfer from community colleges, although you might have to look a bit to find them. There are also articulation officers at the University that can help students to prepare for transfer. These are often called "articulation agreements" or "transfer agreements." If you meet the requirements set out by the University, it is very easy to transfer from a community college to a CSU, UC, or private university after two years.Īll community colleges have transfer officers that are there to help students that plan to transfer to another school. California community colleges have arrangements with numerous public and private universities throughout the state.
