My brother Josh and I used to play this all the time as kids, so this felt like the perfect episode for him to make his RTG debut. And if that didn't convince you? You also get to fight toilet seats. If you've never played it, you control a snake and you have to climb a mountain and eat pieces of yourself without getting stepped on or blown up, and the whole game is in an isometric view and features some of the toughest platforming on the NES. And it's about damned time it got its own episode of RTG. But for my money, it's one of the best, most creative games on the NES. And if you didn't play it as a kid, you probably won't like it now. A cult classic? A hidden gem? I think people that grew up with it, love it.

Nevertheless, almost everyone agrees that it’s a title that definitely has a spot in your PS5 library. Many critics had a hard time with how difficult the game is and how unforgiving its save system is and some called the game somewhat grindy and repetitive toward the tail end of the experience. Over on Metacritic, a popular review aggregator, the game debuted with a score of 86 with many reviews praising the excellent Dual Sense implementation, the amazing visuals, and great integration of rouge-like structure with a meaningful story. Many say that it’s the first true next-gen game on the PlayStation 5 that isn’t a remake or a remaster.
The game itself tells the story of Selene, who must fight for her survival after she finds herself stranded on an alien planet. “Rouge-like”, “bullet-hell”, “third-person”, “story-driven”, “alien-inspired” can all be used to describe what exactly the sci-fi PS5 title Returnal is.
