they took an already great system and ramped it up, giving every character a ton of options, added new characters on top of the entire cast, really made it very tight. ludger's silence is really weird (i applaud them for trying it out, but it just wasn't implemented well), i don't like the primarily "side quest" oriented gameplay, and i strongly dislike the chromatus gameplay.īut man, the general battle mechanics. Tales of xillia 2 improves on it in basically every way. literally the only problem i have with it is serious slowdown issues. Huge fan of tales of xillia, it might even be my favorite entry after abyss. And that's a shame because I did honestly like story, it was just used for the wrong game. Overall you can just tell X2 was lazily put together, trying to keep costs down by reusing as much of X1 as possible. It's only been one year since the first game and now all of a sudden Origin, Chronos, and fractured dimensions exist? But if it had to be set in X1's world then it should have been at least 1000 years later, or maybe even 1000 years before. I would have preferred a new world for their story because honestly, you wouldn't have to change very much about it to fit a new world. The character stories would have been better as DLC for X1, and Ludger and Elle's story deserved its own game with a new cast. Overall the two halves weren't bad individually but they never fit right together. You'd be forgiven if you completely forgot about some of the characters by the end because it's really supposed to be Ludger's and Elle's story. In fact, the game locks you into certain parties, so most of the X1 characters aren't really even there at all. Similarly, the X1 characters are just kind of "there" in Ludger's story. In all the character stories, we get to see more of the characters from X1, and Ludger is just kind of "there". And that's mostly because Ludger never feels like he belongs with the main group. These two halves got glued together in one game but they never really mesh well. The other half of the game is the story of Ludger, Elle, the fractured dimensions, the chromatus, and so on. One half of the game is catching up with the main party of X1 and seeing how the world has changed in the past year. My biggest issue with X2 is that it feels like two completely different stories haphazardly mashed into one game. And even then I have to say I was still underwhelmed by X2. That being said, I greatly lowered my expectations for X2 because direct sequels for JRPGs tend to not be so great. The slowdown in battle was really the only major complaint I had about it. I wouldn't give it the honor of being my favorite Tales game but I had a great time with it. Let me start off by saying that I loved X1. This is the perfect question for me because I just finished Xillia 1 and Xillia 2, both for the first time, not even two weeks ago. Enough about my rambling though what’s everyone else’s thoughts about the game? Overall, I didn’t really enjoy Xillia 2, which is honestly a shame because of how much I loved X1.

Also, why did some skills cost that much SP? It felt a bit excessive at times.

Xillia 1 is notoriously easy, but think about if X1 was someone’s first Tales game, and they directly went to X2 that difficulty spike, ESPECIALLY at the first chromos battle, is worse than the Gattuso fight in Vesperia. Most of the jobs felt like fetch-quests, and dear god I wish they could have helped transitioning the difficulty from Xillia 1 to 2 better. We all know how everyone feels about the debt system so I’m not even going to get into that abomination of a feature. Honestly, I’m never a really big fan of alternate dimension plots in games, but the way that it was handled here was just kind of underwhelming? Also story wise, I didn’t really like the turn they took with alternate dimensions and what not. I didn’t really like some of the character side quests some were good, but then others like Milla’s and Elize’s were so underwhelming. In TOX 2, that’s really taken away from you. What I loved partly about Xillia 1 was that you could always switch around your party, even in battle. There was barely a reason for most of the party members to be there in the first place, and half the time they couldn’t even participate in battle due to your party being locked. I personally LOVED TOX 1 and was super excited for the sequel and ended up really not enjoying it. I probably didn’t scroll back far enough for the last TOX 2 discussion, but I was just wondering: what are all of your guys thoughts on the game?
